A calming, considered workspace for a contemporary East London home

Anne-Cecile and Tom have embraced the work-from home lifestyle in their contemporary home. Tucked away from the rest of the house, they converted the top room with a south-facing window into a beautifully lit, quiet haven to spend their working day. They needed a permanent setup that didn't overcrowd the space and provided solutions for organisation that keeps work from spilling over into the rest of the house. Additionally, they needed a standing desk that was the perfect height for their posture stools (not featured in image).

With both of their requirements in mind, we designed a structural, three-tiered shelving unit with a built-in and concealed standing desk. At the end of the working day, they can both shut away their computers and disguise the desk within the unit. The base of the unit has plenty of closed internal storage for filing and stationery, whilst the outside is a natural plywood with tactile, grooved doors. We included light dowel shelving combined with our joyful Wave joints in order to soften the unit and allow a place for displaying their belongings. Next to the desk, we designed a cosy reading bench that gives them both a place to step away from their desk and take a moment of rest
