A serene space for work and sewing

Angela wanted to turn one room of her modern flat in the vibrant east-London district of Bow into a home workspace that could balance her professional needs as a teacher with her newfound passion for sewing. She envisaged a calm and ordered environment where she could do her best work, but had a lot of books and equipment to store for both activities.

She popped into the Lozi showroom one Sunday and connected with one of our designers over the need to balance professional passions with private ones, coming from a family of teachers and bringing some of the calm of countryside living into an urban space. Together we created a bespoke L-shaped fitted desk with floating shelves above, mobile storage cubbies below and a peg-board at one end. We were able to use the full length of the room for plenty of work surface and storage, with dedicated areas for both work and sewing. 

Now Angela can switch between her job and hobby without the friction of packing away or setting up, so she can enjoy more time exploring sewing and achieve the balance between work and leisure she was after, in a serene environment where everything has its place.

A peg-board uses the vertical space to keep sewing equipment to hand and allows Angela to rearrange it as her practice develops. It visually frames the sewing space, and provides extra structural support for the wall shelves as an added bonus

Borrowing our system for mounting Lozi kitchen cabinets makes the floating shelves strong enough to hold lots of weight without any supports obstructing the work surface, while fitting the desk to the wall minimises the legs underneath, so the space feels open and clear, and Angela can use the full length of the desk.

Cubbies on castors provide extra storage that can be wheeled around or even used elsewhere in the flat. With sliding doors, adjustable shelves and cable management for charging, they provide lots of function in really compact pieces of furniture.

  • After submitting your enquiry and confirming a quote that suits your budget, you'll be allocated one of our highly skilled designer-makers and they will schedule a site visit, where relevant. Based on your requirements and personal style, we'll provide a digital 2-D design to visualise the project outcome. Your designer-maker will ensure the experience is stress-free, supporting important design decisions and providing tailored, design-led solutions. All Lozi furniture is then made in-house and if appropriate, carefully installed by the designer-maker and workshop team.
